Those Who Shape The Soil

This piece of writing won Richard Tyler the Bardic Chair for BathGorsedh Caer Baddon, 2026.

The theme for 2026 was Elder and he chose to craft a piece that speaks directly to the Elder tree and the forests but also the elders within our community and the need for us to embrace eldership.

Whilst poetry can sit beautifully on a page, something happens when we breathe life into it through our voice. It felt important therefore, to film Those who shape the soil.
With enormous thanks and appreciation to our dear friend, colleague and all round talented soul, Al Gurr, for filming and editing this video.
And of course, thank you to the Bath Bardic chair panel who, out of all the talented entrants, chose Richard to take on the role for 2026.
We hope the words, textures, colours and sounds, reach deep inside and touch you in some way.
